That’s Amazing! No really, it is!

I mean life… or the lizard I caught gardening on Saturday. Or that cell phone you might be reading this on. Or the project you are working on. Or the new client you are speaking to.

Do you see the Amazing?

That's amazing

That’s amazing

Several years ago my youngest daughter made me a birthday card. The image to the left is part of what she put inside. It is a picture of me (evidenced by the haircut) looking at a sunset through some mountains and exclaiming, “That’s Amazing!”

She drew that picture because she said that I find so many things amazing! And she’s right. It’s not a contrived perspective. I don’t work at it. I actually do find things amazing!

My Heart Leaps Up

I remember in 12 grade my English Lit teacher, Mr. Daukus, (sp) gave us 60 seconds to memorize a poem. I’ve never forgotten it.

My Heart Leaps Up

My heart leaps up when I behold
A rainbow in the sky:
So was it when my life began;
So is it now I am a man;
So be it when I shall grow old,
Or let me die!
The Child is father of the Man;
And I could wish my days to be
Bound each to each by natural piety.
— William Wordsworth

The poet is basically saying that if he cannot find wonder in the world – the things that “Amazed” him as a child – that he would rather be dead.

One of my coaching clients said to me recently, “What I like best about your advice and input is that it is obvious you care! Your passionate about everything!”

Again, it’s not contrived and I feel blessed to see the world this way. I see my business this way. I see the music I write this way. I see raising my children this way. It’s all Amazing!

Are you struggling to find amazing! Or are you not allowing yourself to be amazed; are you repressing the amazement? I’ll write about that some more in future blogs.

Until then, here are some things I found amazing this week.

My book on the shelf at Barnes and Nobel. Of course, I’d rather it NOT be on the shelf and  instead be on your reading table.

A small lizard I caught while working in the yard. Even more amazing was showing my daughter’s friend how he would bite my finger- she thought that was amazing! (or thought I was stupid…)
